In 1938, Giovanni Achille Gaggia filed in for a patent for the very first steamless coffee machine. The invention included forcing water through proground coffee at a high pressure. As a result the modern espresso with a crema was born.
Gaggia was incorporated in 1948 as a company to manufacture commercial coffee makers. The first domestic machine they manufactured was called Gilda.
Gaggia produces fully automatic and manual espresso machines, accessories and coffee.
One of their most iconic models is the well known Gaggia Classic espresso maker.
In 1999 Gaggia was purchased by Saeco Group then in 2009 by Philips.
In 2017 the Saeco Professional division was sold to N&W Global Vending SpA.
